The Las Vegas shopping list keeps getting longer

Yet another retail project has been added to the city’s growing shopping list.

Earlier this week, Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino announced it will redevelop a 60,000 square-foot area on Harmon Avenue into a dining and entertainment destination. Located on the property’s south end, the new development will begin construction in 2015.

Las Vegas Shopping

“Our goal is to create a walk-able, fun destination activated with daylife and nightlife including live music and restaurants with indoor and outdoor dining,” Miracle Mile Shops General Manager Jerry Irwin said in a press release.

Miracle Mile Shops also plans to open new stores throughout the mall including GNC, Shoe Palace and the first free-standing Alex & Ani store in Las Vegas. Online retailer Ink & Vector recently opened its first and only pop-up location within the center selling comic and fandom apparel and accessories from Marvel, Doctor Who, Hello Kitty, My Little Pony, Star Trek, AMC’s The Walking Dead, Star Wars and more.

Here’s a rundown of other retail destinations in development or recently opened in Las Vegas:

TI “retail-tainment” center

Target opening date: Fall 2014

Grand Bazaar Shops

Grand Bazaar Shops at Bally’s

Target opening date: Fall 2014

Construction continues on Caesars Entertainment’s $50 million Grand Bazaar Shops in front of Bally’s. The 2-acre outdoor retail complex will have 150 outlets ranging in size from 150 to 300 square feet, including Swatch, Superdry, Havaianas and Campo Marzio. More than a third of the space will be dedicated to restaurants, bars and food outlets.

Tropicana Shops

Target opening date: 2015

Earlier this year, Tropicana CEO Alex Yemenidjian announced plans to “hopefully” break ground on a 275,000-square foot shopping mall with a modern South Beach architectural look in late 2014. The two-level shopping mall would be located on the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue and would expand the property’s restaurant and retail offerings with 160,000 square feet for stores and restaurants and a 6,600-square-foot food court. It would be accessible from the mezzanine level of the casino, the street and neighboring properties via a pedestrian bridge.

The Boulevard Mall

Target opening date: 2015

One of the only major shopping malls in Las Vegas from the mid 1960s through the 1980s, The Boulevard Mall was once a popular destination for Las Vegas locals as well as tourists staying on the Strip. In 2013, a commercial real estate company, Sansone Companies, purchased the mall. Sansone is investing upwards of $25 million into restoring the 1.2-million square-foot property. Shoppers can expect a new line-up of stores, restaurants and entertainment venues, a redesigned façade and landscape, and enhancements to surrounding areas on Maryland Parkway. Other additions will include free Wi-Fi and a Farmer’s Market.

The mall is currently open and remains open during construction, which will take place in several phases.

The Park

Target opening date: 2016

While some new shops and restaurants lining the front of New York-New York and Monte Carlo are already open, MGM Resorts International’s plans to construct a dining and entertainment district are still taking shape on the west side of The Strip.

In addition to an open park area, The Park will showcase new eateries, retail shops, Hershey’s Chocolate World and a 20,000-seat arena (developed in conjunction with AEG – to open in 2016).

“Beautiful public places are highlights of many of the world’s finest cities, and Las Vegas shouldn’t be the exception,” Jim Murren, Chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts International, said in a press release. “To create this picturesque outdoor destination, we are literally taking down the walls and opening the doors at our resorts to develop a unique dining and entertainment district that complements its lush new surroundings.”
